Who can access the PAIMM?

All physicians registered at the Barcelona Medical Council, and suffering from a mental disorder and/or addiction can access the program.

You can call us (+34-93 567 88 56) or send an email to: fgalatea@fgalatea.org

Our program’s Reception Unit will confidentially assist you and provide you with any information you need. If necessary, you can schedule a first visit for an initial clinical assessment.

According to our privacy protocols, we assign you a nickname (last names are changed as an extra-protection procedure to keep the confidentiality). Before your first visit, you will sign an informed consent document accepting the terms and conditions of the service.

It is important not to stigmatize mental disorders and/or addictions both among the general population and, specifically, among health professionals.

A non-judgmental approach to our peer in trouble suggesting that he/she may ask for help is the best helpful strategy.  The so called “conspiracy of silence” only helps worsening the problem.

If he/she accepts some help, the PAIMM program may be a good option.

If the physician in trouble does not accept help and his/her mental disorder (and/or addiction) poses a risk for their safe practice, it’s his/her peer’s duty (according to our own Medical Act) to report the Medical Council.

The Fundació Galatea, the CatSalut and the Health Professionals Councils who have singed an agreement with the Galatea Foundation are the main sponsors for professionals working in Catalonia.

Funding for physicians working elsewhere in Spain come from their own Medical Councils and from the Fundación para la Protección Social de la Organización Médica Colegial (Foundation for Social Protection of the Medical Professional Association).

Therefore, all physicians registered in Spain may benefit from free assistance by its own PAIME program. In Catalonia, the free program is extended to other health professionals whose councils have an agreement with Galatea Foundation.

The funds for attending to active, registered professionals in Catalonia come from an agreement between the Fundació Galatea, CatSalut and the medical associations of Catalonia

The funds for treating registered physicians elsewhere in Spain come from the Health Department of the autonomous community in question, the corresponding medical Association and the Fundación para la Protección Social de la Organización Médica Colegial (Foundation for Social Protection of the Medical Professional Association).
