| The Galatea Foundation sprang from an initiative of the COMB (Barcelona Medical Council) and the Catalan Medical Association, with the fundamental purpose of enhancing the health of doctors and of other health professionals. The GF offers a suite of programs to doctors and other health professionals for the promotion of their health, their well-being and their quality of life. Galatea, daughter of Poseidon, epitomises the spirit of help to humanity. Loved by Polyphemus, her love for the shepherd Acis brought on the wrath of the Cyclops, who, jealous, crushed him with a rock. The nymph turned the blood of her beloved into the river that flows at the foot of Mount Etna and that fertilizes the plain of the island of Sicily. Its springs were considered miraculous for the health of those who visited them. |
