Agreement and commitment. The PAIMM was created in 1998 by an agreement between the medical councils and the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Regional Government of Catalonia). And since then, many doctors with mental problems and/or addictive disorders have been treated, doctors who have come from all over Spain and even from neighbouring countries like Portugal and France, with very positive results in the majority of cases.

A new experience with international antecedents. A pioneer in Europe, the PAIMM counts on consolidated antecedents in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, where this kind of specific treatment for care professionals has proved to be remarkably successful.

Extension of the program.This program has been presented in numerous national and international forums, it has received various acknowledgments and awards and has become widely known among the medical personnel and healthcare institutions of our more immediate catchment area.

Although initially the program was confined to Catalonia, the notable demand attended to coming from other regions has resulted in agreements between the Galatea Foundation and medical councils from outside Catalonia so that their registered members can benefit from its services.

Willing to collaborate. The program offers itself to all healthcare organizations and public administrations for one-off consultations and more long-term collaborations on how to prevent these kinds of problems or how to act when faced with them.

The PAIMM also collaborated in the creation of RETORN (Return), a similar program of the Nursing Council of Barcelona for their registered members. Likewise, possible extensions of the PAIMM to other healthcare professionals (dentists and pharmacists) are being studied.
